Manipur – Mrs. Hume’s pheasant

Scientific Name: Syrmaticus humiae Hume
Description: This huge woodland pheasant has chestnut-brown plumage, white wing bars, metallic blue neck feathers, a brownish-orange iris, a yellowish bill, and bare red facial skin. The tails of the male and female birds are long and graded.
Distribution: On steep, rough hillsides, the bird favors mixed open forests with patches of grass and aridity. The birds eat grubs, seeds, berries, roots, insects, and tubers, among other things. The bird can be found in Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Manipur in India. In addition, China, Myanmar, and Thailand are home to pheasants.
Threats: Degradation of habitat, fragmented population, and being hunted for food are some of the major threats faced by the bird.
