Asian Glossy Starling

Asian glossy starling

One species of starling in the Sturnidae family is the Asian glossy starling (Aplonis panayensis). It can be found in the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan (introduced), Bangladesh, Brunei, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand. Its native habitats are mangrove forests and moist lowland forests found in tropical or subtropical regions. This species is also widely distributed throughout towns and cities, where it seeks sanctuary in trees and abandoned structures. They are among the noisiest bird species and frequently travel in huge groups.

The striking brilliant red eyes of the Asian Glossy Starling highlight its glossy plumage, even though it often appears black. The adult’s plumage is black with an overall greenish sheen, with the exception of the matt black vent.

A tiny black mask that covers the eye and surrounding the lores is visible on the skull. More elongated feathers on the nape and neck are fluffed up depending on the circumstances and the bird’s attitude.

The feet, legs, and powerful bill are all black. The eyes have a vivid crimson color.
