Eastern Hoolock Gibbon

Physical Characteristics:
- Medium-sized primate with a slender build.
- Coat color varies from black to dark brown or gray, with lighter patches on the face.
- Prominent eyebrows and a beard-like facial hair.
- No tail, a distinguishing feature among gibbons.
Distribution:
- Found in northeastern India (Assam, Arunachal Pradesh), Myanmar, and southern China (Yunnan Province).
Habitat:
- Inhabits tropical and subtropical forests, including both lowland and montane forests.
- Prefers dense canopy cover and spends most of its time in trees.
Behavior:
- Diurnal, active during the day.
- Arboreal, moving through the canopy using brachiation (swinging from branch to branch).
- Lives in small family groups consisting of a mated pair and their offspring.
- Communicates through loud, melodious calls that can be heard over long distances.
Diet:
