Common Name: Marwar teak or desert teak
Local name: Rohida (Hindi), Rakhtroda (Marathi)
Scientific Name: Tecomella undulata
Description: A medium-sized, slowly growing deciduous tree with long, narrowly oval leaves and drooping branches. The tree produces corymbose racemes of pale yellow to deep orange blooms on short lateral branches. The drier regions of western and northwest India are home to the tree.
Uses: Among the native tree species of Rajasthan’s desert regions of Ajmer, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Marwar, and Shekhawati, this tree yields high-quality timber and is the primary supply of wood. Numerous illnesses are treated using the bark.
