Scientific Name: Senna auriculata

Description: It is a shrub with many branches that grows quickly and is usually found growing in stony, dry hills and scrub forests in arid and semi-arid regions of the Indian subcontinent.

Uses: Senna auriculata is mostly planted for tannins because its bark, often known as “Avaran bark,” is one of the best sources of tannins. It is also occasionally grown for ornamental and hedge purposes. For paddy soils, leaves are utilized as green manure. Traditional medicine uses the herb to cure fever and other illnesses. The tangedu flower is revered by the people of Telangana. During the Batukamma festival, the flowers are used by women folk.
