Western Hoolock Gibbon

Physical Characteristics:
- Medium-sized ape with a slender build.
- Fur color ranges from black to dark brown.
- Lighter facial markings and white eyebrows.
- Long arms and no tail, a distinctive feature of gibbons.
Distribution:
- Found in parts of Northeast India (Assam, Arunachal Pradesh), Bangladesh, and Myanmar.
Habitat:
- Inhabits tropical and subtropical rainforests, often in hilly and mountainous terrain.
- Prefers dense canopy cover and spends most of its time in trees.
Behavior:
- Diurnal, active during the day.
- Moves through trees using brachiation (swinging from branch to branch).
- Lives in small family groups consisting of a mated pair and their offspring.
- Communicates through loud, melodious calls that can be heard over long distances.
Diet:
- Primarily frugivorous, feeding on a variety of fruits.
