Sikkim – Blood Pheasant
Common Name: Blood Pheasant
Local Name: chilimey (Nepali), semo (Bhutia)
Scientific Name: Ithaginis cruentus
Description: Found in the high altitudes of the Eastern Himalayas in India, Bhutan, Nepal, Tibet, China, and the northern regions of Myanmar, the bird is rather frequent. The “red steaks” on its chest make it easy to identify this little, short-tailed pheasant. The female birds have orange cheeks and a warm brown hue.
