Manipur – Uningthou
Common Name: Bonsum
Local Name: Uningthou (Manipuri), Angare (Nepali)
Scientific Name: Phoebe hainesiana Brandis
Description: It is a large tree with a height of about 45m. The tree has thick-dark grey bark. The leaves of the tree are clustered at the branchlet ends. The tree is mostly found in low-elevated areas.
Importance: The tree yields economically valuable timber that is used in making furniture, wardrobes, building materials, boxes, etc. The tree is regarded as the “King of Timber” in Manipur.
